Around Wat Po

Tha Tien Community Acorss Wat Po we will found an old trading center since pre-construction period of the Grand Palace, this Chinese style bazaar and floating market with a large pier has existed here from the beginning of the Rattanakosin period.Though wooden houses or rafts had already turned to concrete buildings; and fruits & vegetables boat venders became truck transportaion, Tha Tien community is still alive along with Wat Pho and the market is normally busy with trading as it used to be.

Old Buildings In Tha Tian Area
Buildings on Maharat road was built in the reign of king Rama V and king Rama VI. The buildings start from Tha Tian Pier. The two stories european style building with the columns seperate each unit and the decoration on the windows arch are in form of block with the wood perforated over the window panels. The three entrances of the market, The upper floor has a western style pediment with beautiful stucco. The lower floor has an arch with round pillars on both side. These Buildings used to be shops where drug and herbs were sold.




Pak Klong Market
About 300 metres from wat po it has a market called Pak Klong Market Although it was opened after Tha Tien, this market is as busy and large. It is the daily wholesale market for fruits, vegetables and flowers, which operated 24 hours. It is also the biggest flower market in Bangkok. Not only fresh flowers from gardens but also many kinds of Thai style typicaly embroidered flowers, even wreathes are sold here. Bangkokians always come to this market for their party decorations. The trading scenery shows both busy vendors and buyers. An interested lifestyle to observe. Open 24 hours a day. Pak klong Market is the city's source of wholesale fresh flowers and vegetables. Known for offering the widest array of flowers in Thailand. it is a one-stop florist's dream. Deliveries begin to arrive from 1 a.m. and by dawn the display features roses, orchids, lotus, jasmine and even tulips from Holland. The widest variety of blooms can be seen at around 9 a.m. Visitors can buy bouquets or floral basket arrangements.
