WAT BENCHAMABOPHIT DUSITWANARAM RATCHAWORAWIHARN

This is an old Temple Dating back to the Ayutthaya period, And was prevously known as "WAT LAEM" or "WAT SAITHONG", in 1827, King Rama II's son Prince Phiphit Phokha Phuben sat his troop to defense Laos troop of Prince Anuwong at this site. After this site. After the war, He restored the temple and built five Chedis(Pagoda) in front of the temple in King Rama IV's reign, The name was changed to "BENCHAMABOPHIT" meaning the Temple of five princes. in 1899, King Rama V Built Dusit Palace which covering upto the temple area. The King then ordered to rebuild the Temple and changed its name to "BENCHAMABOPHIT DUSIT WANARAM", meaning The Temple of the fifth King and located nearby Dusit palace. The Temple's Ubosot was built of marble from Italy. Inside is The Buddha image by imitating Phra Phutthachinarat at Phitsanulok Province.

Wat Benchamabophit Dusitvanaram is located in the Dusit district of Bangkok, Thailand. Simply known as the marble temple, it is one of Bangkok's most beautiful temples and a major tourist attraction.

Inside the ordination hall (ubosot) is a Sukhothai-style Buddha statue named Phra Buddhajinaraja, cast in 1920 after the original located in Wat Mahathat in Phitsanulok. The ashes of King Chulalongkorn are buried beneath the statue. In the gallery surrounding the ordination hall are 52 buddha statues, collected by Prince Damrong Rajanubhab for his king.
The temple was featured in the famous The Amazing Race 9 as the 10th and final elimination pit-stop.
The image of the temple's façade is visible on the reverse side of the Five-Baht coin of the Thai currency.
The site contains the Benchamabophit National Museum.

The Bodhi free(ficus religiosa) or the so-called Phra Sri Mahabodhi is significant to Buddhists as the Buddha attained was taken from India more than a hundred year ago(1891) by H.R.H. Prince Damrong Rajanubhab. King Chulalongkorn had presided over to plant Bodhi tree on 2 August 1900.


Phra Vihara Somdej(S.P.) is a distinctively designed building of four gables with the part of the southern and the western gables being of two storys while the part of the eastern and the western gables having only a single store. The distinct feature of this Vihara is focused on its door and window panels of beautiful gilded and lacquered decoration And the stucco adornment of its niches and gables with glass inlaid Surrounding the royal monogram "S.P." of Queen Sauwabha Phongsri, The consort of King Chulalongkorn who built this building in 1902, in accordance with the will of her husband to serve as the Buddhist library known at that time as "Ho Buddasasana Sangraha". Two important Buddha image i.e. Phra Fang and the Replica of Phra Buddha Narasih, enshrined in this Vihara.










Bovonvong Bell Tower : The bell tower is a typical style of thai architecture, roofed with glazed tiles and walled with marble slabs. It was set up in memory of Krom Phra Rajavang Bovorn Sathan Mongkol(the Vice-King) of the Front place which was the rank second to the king in importance. The bell itself was taken from Wat Bovorn Sathan Suddhavas in the precint of the Front Palace. Thus the royal given name to this tower is "Bovornvong Bell Tower".










Outside Wat Benchamabophit(Front door) has a little canal called "Prem Prachakon Canal."
