For this trip, we will use the BTS service and alight at BTS Ratchadamri station, using the fourth exit and walking up towards the four Season Hotel. Not so far, we will smell smoke from josssticks accompanied by the tune of the Thai classical music throughout the premises. All walks of life hold flowers, candles and joss sticks and move towards the same direction demonstrating that we have arrived at Ratchaprasong Intersection, the junction of Gods.
Ratchaprasong
Ratchaprasong is a name of an intersection in the heart of Bangkok where Sukhumvit Road and Ratchadamri Road meet. It is the shopping zone and the attraction of foreign tourists located near Siam Square. There exists a walkway that conveniently links Ratchaprasong to and from it. This makes this compound a large shopping arcade. Moreover, it houses several shrines that are popular among people to worship namely the Erawan Shrine in front of Sogo Department store. The Trinity and the Ganesha in front of Central World Department Store. Also, on every 31st December of every year, this area is used to host a new year countdown occasion, on which people gather and countdown to the new year simultaneously.
After paying homage to sacred beings, the stomach needs filling too. We would then select to dine in a restuarant with a fine atmosphere and proceed to go shopping at Suan Lum Night Bazaar, a shopping site open during the day and night using the BTS service again. Commuting only for 2 minutes. we will arrive at Sala Daeng Station, using the fifth exit which connects to the MRT. Riding on the MRT for 1 station and alighting at Lumphini station, using the third exit, we will see the entrance to Suanlum Night Bazaar.
SUAN LUM NIGHT BAZAAR
Suan Lum Night Bazaar is located in Lumphini Garden and it is the centre of more than 3,700 outlets, different styles of restaurants and it houses BEC Tero Hall, a venue used to host many world class concerts. There is also fashionable hair weaving service famous among the Thais and foreigners. Popular Thai dishes such as Thai stir - fried noodles and spring rolls are available or visitors can choose to dine in a restaurant with good atmosphere. The other thing that makes Khaosan Road popular and well - known is its activity on Songkran's day where both many Thais and foreigners come play with water. It is now time to part from the crowds on Khaosan Road to a serene, historic road over the magnificence of the Rattanakosin reign.
RATCHADAMNOEN ROAD
It is magnificent and a pride of the city. Since its first construction until the present, it has comprised three main routes: namely, Ratchadamnoen Nai, Ratchadamneon Nok, and Ratchadamneon Klang. We choose to begin with Ratchadamnoen Klang as all important sites on Ratchadamneon Nai are closed. As for light decoration, it starts from Ratchadamneon Klang through Ratchadamneon Nok. When walking past the Democracy Monument, not so far, we will reach the Maha Chetsadabodin Pavilion Square built in the 200th Anniversary Celebration of the Rattanakosin Reign. From this position, we are able to spot Metallic Castle, the only one left in the world, at Ratchanatda Ramawihara Temple. Little over to the left is the Mahakan fortress, a white stronghold with the line of city wall winding along the narrow street. Once crossing Phanfa Lilat Bridge, we are then on Ratchadamneon Nok and can enjoy watching lighting and ancient buildings all the way until the King Taksin Equestrian Courtyard in which a number of people pay homage to King Rama V. Behind this is the Anantasamakhom Throne Hall reflecting the Italian Renaissance architecture built wholly from the Italian marble erecting beautifully and stunningly.
